The Two Swordsmen
The two swordsmen stood facing each other, death danced in their eyes. The elder warrior moved first and within a second he had crossed the gap. The swordsmen posses such speed; they are hardly seen. The blades clashed together with a loud crack and sparks flew off in all directions. The two stood blade to blade staring into the other’s eyes; their cloaks billowed in the wind.
Lightning flashed and the two swordsmen were gone. A deathly silence choked the air. Suddenly, a loud crash was heard echoing on the wind. The swordsmen now stood on the roof of a rundown house in the middle of the deserted, crumbling town.
The warriors were now going at each other in full force. Both wielded a mastery of the sword such as none other. Sparks flew every time the blades collided with each other. Each spark was a raging inferno against the dark doomsday clouds. Lighting flashed again.
The two swordsmen each kneeled resting. They were both drenched in the other’s blood, and their cloaks were torn to shreds. Each shred billowed in the hard wind. Lightning flashed briefly illuminating the intent to kill in both of their eyes. The two are breathed hard, taking a moment to recuperate. The younger then spoke, “It’s time to die... brother.”
Lightning flashed as he kneeled on one knee breathing heavily, and sweat poured off his face. He thought back to a battle that took place many years ago.
A scream broke the cool evening air; he heard it from the garden. It had come from his house. He took off running, and within a few minutes he burst through the doors to his father’s study. He came to a sudden halt; on the floor in front of him laid the body of his father. Blood surrounded the now lifeless body of his father and the once beautiful study was now drenched with his crimson blood.
He stood in horror trying to comprehend what had just happened. That’s when a noise caught his attention. It was a steady dripping noise. He couldn’t quite place where it was coming from. Quickly he rolled forward as the sword of his father’s killer came swiftly down. He rose to his feet to stare at the murder. What he saw dumbfounded him. His older brother, by only a year, stood before him. The crimson blood of his father dripped steadily off of the shining sword he held in his hand.
Without so much as a wink, the older brother attacked his unarmed sibling. The younger was only able to dodge his brother’s deadly blows, while he frantically searched for a weapon of his own. He continued to dodge blow after blow from his brother; when a glimmer caught his eye. A quick glance in that direction revealed the blade of his ancestors. The blade was overly large, and it seemed to be more of just a giant slab of metal than a sword. It glimmered with the orange, yellow, and red of the setting sun, and this light seemed to give the blade an aura of mysterious power.
From the size of the blade he knew it would be near impossible to lift. He had to do something though, because he could dodge his brother’s blows much longer. His brother’s blade came straight for his head. The tip of the blade whistled through the air as he barely dodged. The blade now thirsted for his blood now. After the near hit he lunged for his only hope!
His hand grabbed the leather grip of the huge blade, but he couldn’t lift it. He tried with all his might, but it wouldn’t budge. His brother stood back and watched his pitiful attempts to move the huge slab of metal. A look of psychotic evil was in his eyes. He quickly ran to his younger sibling and hit him on the head with the flat of his sword. His laugh broke the silence of the evening; the laugh was undoubtedly evil.
The younger sibling fell to the ground stunned by the blow. His mind swam through the pain and the shock that his elder brother had betrayed him and his family. He wished it would all just end. Comfort suddenly washed over him and a warm feeling settled over his body. Something deep within his mind yanked him out of the pleasant stupor and he sat up and opened his eyes. Immediately he closed his right eye because something was stinging it. He touched his face and pulled his hand away to examine the thick liquid. The liquid was crimson; it was blood, the blood of his father! His head quickly whipped around to see the once brilliant eyes now soulless and empty. Something snapped within him at that moment.
A white fury flooded his entire body. He was strengthened and revitalized. The laughter of his brother echoed throughout the room. He quickly rose to his feet and once again grabbed his only hope. As soon as he touched the blade his brother ran at him to make the killing blow. The blade lifted off of its pedestal, and his brother came to a sudden halt.
The sibling’s blades both came whistling through the air. As the blades collided, all time seemed to stop. The brothers stood staring deeply into the other’s eyes. Suddenly the younger brother’s blade seemed to take on a light glow, and his brother’s sword shattered. The younger brother’s blade was deflected away by the explosion. Time returned to normal, as a shriek of pain cut through the night air. The younger brother looked to see a shard of what was once his brother’s blade lodged in his brother’s eye! Blood poured out of the wound. The older sibling glared at his younger counterpart. “I will finish what I started!” The elder brother then quickly ran out of the palace. The younger then fell to the floor exhausted.
The blade that saved his life that night so long ago is the same blade that he wields this day against his brother. The blade has been slightly modified over the years it is now longer, wider, and heavier. Of course the young man was no longer very young; he had come into his own. He was now a man.
The siblings kneeled across the clearing from each other. They breathed heavily as they took the quick opportunity for a short rest. Rain slowly began to fall. The younger then spoke, “It’s time to die... brother.” Rain poured down on them both now. The elder brother looked at his younger sibling through his one eye. “Yes Shawne, It’s time for me to finish this!”
