Well looks like i get to start things off here. This is a fan fic that i write during school for the fun of it.
This is a story about a young man named Warren. Warren, at one time, was an average 17-year-old high school student. Worried about graduating from school, taking the ACT, and going to Prom. Despite these average things, Warren was a Duelist. Duelists were extremely uncommon in the area in which he lived. Warren was only able to duel with a select few people that he was a close friend with. Warren excelled at dueling being one of the best in his limited battling area. Warren continued on his life normally, until one day…
“Look I’ll be there when I get there!” Warren hung up his cell phone as he walked out of the school. “Darn, they always seem to want more.” Warren had been talking with his employer, Robert Zinger. Warren was a delivery guy. He would deliver different packages for Mr. Zinger after school and when he had free time. “Yo! Warren!” Rei Zinger, Warren’s best friend, ran to catch up with him. “Hi Rei. What do ya need?” Rei caught up with Warren, “ Jeeze someone’s in a bad mood.” Warren had been under a lot of pressure lately and it showed. Mr. Zinger wanted Warren to work more hours and Warren still had homework, which continued to increase, to catch up with. “Yeah, well it’s your father’s fault.” Warren picked up his pace. “Look dude,” Rei grabbed Warren’s shoulder wheeling him around, “I can’t help the fact the my father is pushing harder now.” A look of anger passed through Warren’s eyes but left quickly. “ Look I have to get going or your father is going to have my hide. Later!” Warren then took off running. He ran right into his Destiny.
“Darn!” Warren glanced at his watch. “Rei why can’t you just leave me alone!” Warren was twenty minutes late for work. Mr. Zinger hates when he is late. “I’m going to have to cut through the alley!” Warren turned the corner and ran down the alley he quite frequently used when he was running late. Upon rounding the corner into the alley he noticed a man standing in the middle of the alley. “Excuse me, but I really need to get past.” Warren made an attempt at passing by this odd man, but the man took a swing at him! Warren barely avoided the attack. The man, wearing a jacket with a hood on throwing an ominous shadow on is face, stood there blocking Warren’s path.
“Look I’m going to let that punch slide, but I really need to get through.” The man then spoke: “You are the one I am searching for. Follow me.” The man voice seemed to sound hollow and extremely creepy. “Why should I follow someone who just tried to hit me?” The man peering from beneath his hood just stood there for a moment. Then without warning he grabbed Warren’s should with an iron solid grip. “If you will not follow then I will take you.” The hollowness seemed to echo. “Hey bud, I’m late for work, so let me go!” Warren tried to wrench his shoulder free but the grip held. “You will come with me!” The man, being quite large, punched Warren in the stomach knocking him out. “Now the test begins.” The man walked off caring Warren over his shoulder.

Boom! Boom! Boom! What was that? Warren awoke with a start. “Good to see you are awake,” said the large man with the hollow voice. Warren began to look around. He was sitting in a small chair across from the large man. They were in a large open area in some sort of warehouse. “Wh-What to you want with me?” Warren was getting angry now. He was really late for work. The large man chuckled but it sounded more like a crow cawing. “I shall test you.” “Test me for what?” Warren realized that his book bag was right next to him. The large man pulled out four playing cards. It’s the four different kings! “Pick one of the kings,” commanded the large man. “Why?” “Just do it!” “Fine! I choose the King of Hearts!” The man chuckled again. “Good, now the first of three games begin.”
“Game one start! I will shuffle these four kings in to a deck of ten cards. Then you shall try and pick the King of Hearts.” Warren had something gnawing at the back of his mind. What was that noise that woke me up? “What happens if I win?” The large man quit shuffling the cards. “You will proceed to the second test.” “And what if I lose?” At this the large man began to laugh again his hollow laugh echoing. It was then that Warren looked above himself. There was a large claw above him! This is the old Flambo Toy Company!!! Warren looked around and could clearly see stacks of old toys and equipment. “I see…” Warren was now beginning to get nervous. “The game begins!” The large man shouted. “You get three chances. Every time you guess I will remove the card that you picked from the hand. At the end of the three guesses I will turn over the three cards. You win if one of the three cards is the King of Hearts.” The large man then held up the ten cards in his hand. “Choose your three cards.” Warren stared at the cards for a moment. Which should I choose? I’ve got slim chances of winning this. I guess I’ll go with my gut feeling. “For my first guess I pick the third from the right.” The large man pulled the card out and sat it face down on the table. If only he weren’t wearing that hood I might be able to read his face. “For my second guess I pick the fourth from the left.” The large man pulled the card out and sat it face down on the table. “You only have one guess left and it’s not looking good for you.” The hollow voice echoed throughout the old factory. The large man then began to laugh. “Choose!” Warren was now extremely worried about his last choice. “I pick the second from the right!” The large man’s hand jerked but he then picked the card out of the deck and placed it on the table. He then turned the three cards over. What the King of Hearts isn’t there! “Looks like you lose!” The large man began to pick up the cards. “How could I have lost?” Then a card flew out of the large man’s sleeve. It was the King of Hearts! “There was no way I could have won; was there!” Warren was angry again knowing he had been cheated. The large man picked up his deck of cards and put them away. “Looks like you won.” The man’s hollow voice sounded a little distressed.
“Game two! The stakes are the same you win you go on to the final test, you lose and you die!” Warren looked up at the large claw hanging over his head. It had to way at least a ton. I’ve got to win this one, or I’m toast! “You have a deck of cards in your bag get them out.” Warren had a look of shock on his face. How could he have known that I’ve got my dueling deck in there? Warren pulled his deck out of his book bag. The then set it in the middle of the table. “The next game is simple. We will each draw two cards. The player with the strongest card combo wins.” Sounds simple enough. “Ok then lets begin.” The large man shuffled the deck and then drew his two cards. Warren then drew his two cards. Alright the Celtic Guardian and… “I have the Battle Ox and I know that is one of the strongest cards in your deck!” The large man began to laugh at the look of dismay on Warren’s face. The look of dismay quickly became a smirk. “I’ve got the Celtic Guardian.” Warren held out the card. “That pathetic card could never beat the Battle Ox!” Warren was still grinning; this made the large man very nervous. “But, I also have the Fusion Sword Murasame Blade! Which increases the Celtic Guardian’s power to 2200!” Warren was still grinning. “What no!” Disappointment echoed in the large man’s hollow voice.

“You may have won that game as well but now the true challenge begins!” The large man jumped out of his chair and flung his hands into the air. “You’ll fail at this final challenge!” The large man yelled. “We will now duel!” All right this test ought to be easy! Warren became quite eager to show off the skills he had learned from battling with his friends. “You shall use your deck and I shall use mine.” The large man pulled a deck out from the inside of his jacket and he sat back down. Both Warren and the large man placed their decks on the table. Suddenly an idea struck Warren. “What is the penalty for losing this time?” The large man began to laugh again. “You see Warren this is now a shadow game!” What the heck is a shadow game? “What’s a shadow game?” “A shadow game is a game in which you lose your soul if you lose.” “WHAT!!!” The large man’s hollow voice echoed as he made this statement. Warren was stunned speechless. Not only would he die if he lost, he’d lose his soul to the shadow realm. “Well I’d better not lose!”
Both of the men drew their first five cards. “I believe I shall take the first move,” said the large man. He drew his sixth card and the duel began. “I summon The Mammoth Graveyard!” atk 1200/def 800 Warren was startled out of his mind as the monster on the card jumped to life right before his eyes! There is more to these shadow games than I originally thought. “Fine! Now it’s my move and I summon the Celtic Guardian in attack mode!” atk 1400/def 1200 Warren’s favorite monster happens to be the Celtic Guardian and he was more than happy to summon it. “Go Celtic Guardian! Elven Slash!” The Celtic Guardian ran at the Mammoth Graveyard and slashed it to bits. “Very good Warren but now it’s my turn!” Warren could see the large man’s eyes glowing bright behind the darkness of his hood. “I summon the Battle Ox!” atk 1700/def 1000 “Attack the Celtic Guardian and destroy it!” The battle Ox ran at the Celtic Guardian. Just as his axe came crashing down upon the Celtic Guardian he raised his blade and parried the attack. He then sheathed his sword and drew out a long chain with some sticks of dynamite on the end of the chain along with some spikes. The Celtic Guardian counterattacked the Battle Ox destroying him and decreasing the man’s life points! “What!?!?! How did that happen?!?!” The large man leaned back in surprise. “You should have paid more attention to my last move.” Warren smiled triumphantly. “I know that my Celtic Guardian is a relatively weak monster so I always have ways to beef him up. You just so happened to have activated my trap card Blast with Chain which increases my Celtic Guardian’s attack power by five hundred.” atk 1900/def 1200 Warren continued to grin for he had just won the first two rounds of combat.

“Now it’s my turn!” Warren had a growing sense of confidence in himself. “This battle is over! Celtic Guardian attack his life points directly!” The Celtic Guardian ran at the large man. Suddenly three women appeared in front of him and blocked his attack. “Too bad. I activated my trap card Waboku which nullifies your Celtic Guardians attack.” Confidence had returned to the large man’s hollow voice. “It’s my turn once again so I shall set this card and play De-Spell on Blast with chain!” “Heh, you may have destroyed my trap card but I get to destroy one of your cards on the field. I choose the one you just played.” This isn’t good my Celtic Guardian is back to normal. At least he can’t summon again this turn. The large man began to laugh as he removed his card from the field to the graveyard. “Now I play Monster Reborn on the Dark Magician!” Warren was startled. How did that get in his graveyard? “Go Dark Magic Attack!” The Celtic Guardian was blasted into oblivion. This is not good. I don’t know if I have anything strong enough to take down his Dark Magician. “I’ll play this card face down and set this card.” The large man laughed again. “I see that you are running scared! Dark Magic Attack!” The face down card was blasted. “Another monster down!” What am I going to do?
Warren: 2900 Large Man: 3600
Warren drew his next card and suddenly began to laugh out loud. Here we go! “I’ll play Polymerization on Masaki the Legendary Swordsman and the Flame Manipulator!” The large man laughed again. “That is no where near strong enough fool!” Warren was smiling. “I’m not done yet now I play Salamandra! Increasing the Flame Swordsmen attack by 700!” atk 2500/def 1600 “Fool! That only ties the score! I’ll gladly sacrifice my Dark Magician to crush your final hopes!” Warren just smiled. “I end my turn.” The large man laughed. “This is the end go Dark Magic Attack!” Just as the Dark Magician attacked Salamandra, the fire dragon, leapt from the Flame Swordsmen’s blade to cancel out the attack. “What?!?!” The Flame Swordsmen then attacked and destroyed the Dark Magician! “How?” Warren smiled again. “You activated my trap card: Deal of the Phantom!” The large man appeared startled. “The spirits of his fallen comrades came to aid him in his time of need.”

“No! How can this be?” The large man’s confidence was shattered. This duel is done! “Now I summon my second Celtic Guardian! Go X Strike!” The combined power of the Flame Swordsmen and the Celtic Guardian took the large man’s life points down to zero! I won! Warren was then startled to see the man’s face for the first time and he was smiling!
The large man walked over and clapped Warren on the shoulder. “You are the one.” The man’s face suddenly turned serious. He pulled from the inside of his jacket a small gold plate hanging on a silver chain and he handed it to Warren. “You are now the owner of this and Guardian of the Earth element.” Warren examined the crest and was surprised to see the Celtic Guardian engraved on it. The large man pulled out his dueling deck and pulled a card from it and handed it to Warren. It was his Dark Magician! “I can’t take these.” The large man pushed Warren forward and when Warren turned around he was gone. Warren shoved the crest and cards into his bag and took off running. Can’t worry about that now I’m an hour and a half late for work. Warren ran off into the sunset to get to work. I’m so dead!
End Chapter 1
