Stupid question time... 1) What is the point of Training in this game, and how should I go about it? I tried it and I was supposed to have 8 of my characters fighting 8 other of my own characters? It made no sense to me! Does training always invlove fighting against your won characters? I realize training (ala OB64) is going to level up your characters, but should I use 8 characters or Train with just a few? What is the best way to go about it? 2) Quest Mode. Same as above! What is the point and how should you go about it? Am I supposed to do the quest after completing each area? Is the quest mode similar to the area exploration of OB64?

Training is fighting your own guys to level up. Like, say you recruit a new soldier, give him a bow, and just have him keep hitting your highest level guy. If you want you can set it to computers and have them do them just fight it out and level up for you. Sometimes it can be interesting to make two teams and see which side wins.
It was cool in Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together for the PSX when you could actually have two people play eachother in the Training mode. But you can just link and vs the other persons team in TO: tKoL.
Quest mode is special maps that you play to get special items. You can get some very good items from doing this. IIRC, the less turns you take to complete a Quest map the better the item.

Yes it is very good. It is similar to FFTA, you control individual fighters rather then units ala OB64. It is harder then OB64 also. There are lots of games for sale on EBay including brand new games (if that matters to you). I bought mine off EBay.

This game is easily the worst game in the Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre series.
That said, it is still pretty great and definatly worth getting. And it's much better than FFTA. Maybe not Fire Emblem, but definatly FFTA.

Harder than OB64? I'm going to say no. The only character I ever had die was a ninja girl I had from the start and never promoted, and I blame that on falling asleep while playing. Yeah, I think this is the only game that's made me fall asleep.
Much better than FFTA and Hoshigami, probably better than Onimusha Tactics, but not as good as just about any other SRPG I've played.

Well I obviously do not understand tactics, weapons, spells, character promotion etc... I spend half my time healing people. I find the first quest virtually impossible!! The battle at Ostorea Castle took me hours and multiple attempts just to finally get to the Boss and then I was simply crushed!! I think character promotion, emblems, special items is my biggest area I need to learn. I was in a battle with Euphaire the other day and decided to use some item on her; I thought it was supposed to level her up or something, instead it killed her instantly and was meant to be used on an enemy. OB64 I rule. The only relatively minor problem I ever have is with Sphinx or Cocatrice.

I just finally got this for myself for christmas. Quez if you havent found it yet let me know. There was an extra copy at the place i got it, only downfall is if you insist on having the booklet and case. I usually really like to have those, id like to have waited to get the whole thing but its even rare to see just the game so i took it. I might have to trade you that for one of those extra Clumsy's you have. ;n) Or something, im partially just kidding but let me know if you want me to look into it.

Whoa...Tactics Ogre: the Knight of Lodis...I'm probably in the minority, but I really liked this game even more than...Ogre Battle 64. I mean the game was fairly easy to understand, intimidating when described, of course, but playing it was great. I also liked its plot a lot more than Ogre Battle 64's, even if it was harder to get into at first. The game play questions have been answered, but I have to say that training in this game is a lot better than in Ogre Battle 64. You can train people more precisely. I also like the fact alignment is mostly fixed per character, creating the consequence of making classes available to neutral characters that wouldn't be otherwise. And remember, if you ever need help, go to www.tacticsogre.com *shameless plug* for information.

I still liked OB64 better but i havent even played this game all that much yet. What i do like is getting to do exactly what you want. I hated when your guys could easily kill a whole unit but because of stupid decisions in battle they dont finish people off or dont do combo majic or whatever else they do. Oh and so far i also really like how you can have distance plus up close and personal options. Like equipping a wizard with a sword and a staff, or ninjas, or giving a close quarters character a bow till he gets in close enough to get a choke hold. I definately like the game but im not sure if it will be able to hold up to 64. Its not far though, its a close battle. Ive yet to really open this game up yet. Actually the more i type the more i really want to just go play.

I'm sorry, but if you liked this game better than OB64, you're just crazy.

I'm crazy. While I liked certain aspects of Ogre Battle 64, I disliked many aspects as well, partly because I love March of the Black Queen. Tactics Ogre: tKoL is more along the lines of tactical RPG than the Ogre Battle games (which focus more on overall strategy), so to compare it with its Ogre Battle cousins isn't fair even when all the games are part of the same series. In Tactics Ogre: tKoL items are now in a general inventory again, necessities can be bought from stores relatively easily, expenses are far less daunting, the player can recuit soldiers (and not the ANNOYING Ogre Battle 64 kind), and so many more things were done in this game far better than in Ogre Battle 64 that it's not funny.

Well as its titled Tactics Ogre i sure would hope its more of a tactical game. <<hehe>> There definately is a hella-awesome game somewhere between all of these (just plain) awesome games. I like the units in PoLC because you get to have more characters, but i like having more control over the characters and more choices on equipment. In PoLC however, often your characters make stupid decisions because you cant decide what they do, just who they attack and their general plan of attack, which usually backfires. In TO though, even though you can have a large number of characters you dont really get to use them all that much. Its one of the biggest things i dont like. Before, even though they got kind of redundant and at first most of your characters look too much alike, at least you could have what, 50 characters on the field at once? Thats much better than 5 or 8 or whatever else tactics games lets you have. But yes anyway as Nang said its kind of unfair to compare, in my opinion any of the three games. Not that you cant but all three are quite different so its harder to compare them.

I like it as the first game I played in the OGB series was Tactics Ogre for ps1 and it reminds me of that. But nothing beats OGB64...that's my opinion! LOL

He seemed too agreeable to me. Perhaps thats it.
I agree. Nothing can beat OB64. Im more interested in TO:KoL right now but once i beat this a couple times im sure my interest will fade back to where it belongs.

I hope you're talking about tKoL, JIT.
It will be a looong time before you beat LuCT. Thats a feat I have yet to accomplish.

I forgot an o in too so i went ahead and modified to clarify. I havent played LuCT yet so ill take your word for it. Ive still yet to beat FFTactics for ps1. Ive gotten quite a bit into the game and my characters can do almost anything they want but the game finally started to get ridiculously hard. Plus even if you just have to beat one enemy i usually save that one for last and beat everyone. Even if that means having to heal the enemy leader, which ive been doing quite a bit of in KoL.
