I know Zit played this, but has anyone else? It seemed at first to be exactly like the other Fire Emblems, just in 3d, but it's become very good. Like that mission where you can either stealthily sneak by a few patrolling guards or just charge in and set off the garrison and have a huge war. I've never quite seen anything like that in an SRPG, and I was impressed by it.
Zit, what did you mean that every human in the game is usable?... Are you saying that the laguz suck? Mordecai and Lethe seem to be pretty awesome, and I'd kill to have Ranulf in my team. I'm sure the dragon laguz(yay Fa/Myrrh) are pretty good. Maybe the bird laguz are crap, the ones I've been fighting on the mission I'm on now seem not that strong, but the beasts are awesome.
Anyway, Boyd is awesome. He is easily my best character. On the mission right after Greil and the Black Knight fought, and the castle we were in was under siege, he definatly should his dominance. He took the bottom entrance to the castle, Titania took the right side, and the rest of my team in its entiretytook the left side. Titania and the rest of my team struggled on their sides, but Boyd totally slaughtered everyone in the bottom, INCLUDING the boss. He even went all the way around and attacked the group Titania was struggling against from behind. I also made him a custom Steel Axe with maxed stats named Bob.
So yeah, Boyd rocks.

Yeah, Boyd maxed str for me and had nearly 60 HP. Gave him a forged weapon and he raped everyone. In fact, I kept him off a few maps and he still got the most kills at the end of the game.
The problem with laguz is that they level slowly and don't promote, not to mention they also have to build their meter to do any kind of damage. I just didn't find it worth it when I could have someone who could consistently do as much damage. The bonus experience also makes it easy to get anyone the important stat increases, so you can use just about anyone in the game. The dragon laguz in this game are just like the other laguz--no dragon stone, and the laguz meter needs to build. Not to mention you can only get one and it's only for the last map.

I see. I'll still use Lethe, I think, if only because she's the only decent character really that I want to support with Ike.
What Theif do you recommend? They seem pretty weak, especially since they use knives instead of normal swords now, so whoever I use I'll probably have to get them levelled with bonus experience. Volke's already level 10, so thats good experience wise, but Sothe has that awesome Blossom skill that apparently increases his growths. I wonder if he'd turn out strong.

Blossom makes Sothe level even slower than normal, which makes it incredibly hard to use him. There's another reason why you shouldn't use Sothe, but I'll just tell you to stick with Volke. You'll see why soon enough.
Also, you might want to leave 3 support slots for Ike open. You get a character late in the game that you'll most likely want to support with him, but it's not necessary. I also had a B support with Soren, because Soren is a monster and you get him really early.

Yeah, I already started supporting him with Soren. He's just too awesome, gameplay and storyline wise. I'll definatly use Soren. I haven't decided if I want to use Ilyana too, and for that matter Mia or Zihark. How many characters can you use in later chapters? I'd like to use all of four them, and Boyd's brothers(though Oscar is looking to have low strength, so I might dump him...but after that between mission conversation that they had about a special attack, I want to keep him around), Mist, and Nephenee, and maybe that nomad chick that Gatrie is working for. Astrid I think her name was. I just started the mission with her. I guess I'll use Volke, too.

I remember the number fluctuated a lot, and I generally had to keep one of my mainstays out of the battle. I think around 14 is the number.
I dropped Oscar around mid-game, before he hit level 20, but if you want to use the tri-attack, give him a bow on promotion. I personally used Mia through the end of the game, and she was struggling a bit towards the end. She didn't have the damage output others did and didn't dodge enough for her to stay in the front. I'll get you a list of my used characters in a while.

I have to use Nephenee though. She's a SOLDIER!
It will be a complete surprise when she promotes. I have no idea what she will become. A General? A Paladin? Something new entirely? I just don't know.

Okay, here we go.
Mist Astrid Volke Gatrie Illyana Marcia Soren Jill Rolf Nephenee Mia Ike Boyd
13 units, from least "wins" to most. Some are a little slanted as I basically fed Mia units and kept Marcia from them, because she's a goddamn death-goddess. The useable number fluctuates from 12-14 on average and about 18 on the last map, though occasionally they'll throw in people you need to use and probably don't want.
Also, you get one other person who starts as a promoted Soldier, but I didn't use him because he was pretty crappy.

By "I have to use Nephenee" I meant "You stupid bitch, this is the 30th time you've died, I'm not resetting again!"
Nobody ELSE ever forced me to reset.

Really? What's her defense, speed, and HP? I don't think my Nephenee died once, but she was usually with Ike or Boyd. She's cool, but she doesn't have the speed, movement, or stamina to be alone, though her defense was low 20s by the end of the game.

If your Nephenee died, she sucked hard. Nephenee was my personal Ike/Rhys protector and would just totally and utterly go off on people with the skills she had (stat increase at half health, increased chance of critical at half health) when I kept her near the front. She saved my ass three times in the last battle.
I never really did anything with Boyd though (never even promoted him). My Jill was an absolute tank. When a side of the map had a lot of strong enemies on it, she and Stefan would just take that side and proceed to slaughter anything and everything that came at them. No matter what Stefan was fighting, if his Astra skill goes off, the critter he's fighting is toast. I paired him with Jill because her defense maxed for me so I could use her to stick in front of him and keep him mostly protected from the heavy hitters. Stefan is the only person in my team that ever killed a dragon in a single hit, though (well, 5 hits, Astra went off and he critted 3 times=p)
Of course, I also used the hell outta Oscar, though I started phasing most of my paladins out towards the end. I used the three cat laguz the whole game, though never really found much use for the birds.
PS. you can eventually get Ranulf on your team. I generally used him as a blocker for my healers, then when he transformed I'd rush him out and maul what I could, then rush him back to continue guarding them=p

I don't know, probably around 10ish speed, defense, and strength, and 26ish HP, she was around level 16. She was the only person that EVER died for me for some reason, even though Ike and Mia are just as weak as she was. It was understandable in the last instance where she died, a boss level halberdier(although he was just the final enemy of the first stage in Selenes forest) got a critical with a killer lance, but she still died way to often so I just didn't bother with her anymore. I will start using Gatrie and Jill now instead, my team severely lacks tanks. Against Knights, only Boyd and Lethe can stand up to them. Soren can take 1 or 2 on, but he can't stand there and exchange blows with a group.
My army right now consists of:
Ike Mist Rolf Mia Nephenee(dead) Lethe Boyd Oscar Astrid Soren Gatrie Jill
I'm using Rhys for this huge 4 parter mission too though.
I just didn't want to bother with Nephenee anymore. The only times she ever got to get a kill was if I specifically weakened an enemy just for her.
Plus that tutorial on class changing spoiled that she would become a halberdier.
Ike sucks too, I'd drop him if I could. Worst lord ever.

=o its teh daos!
OMG SPOILERS I HATES YOU FOREVERZ
Messing around in the skills area I noticed Stefan automatically has an occult scroll skill. Thats pretty badass. I'm sure he must be good, but I don't plan to use him untill my other units catch up to him in level a bit.
Ranulf? That's pretty awesome. He fought the Black Knight and didn't explode or anything, so he must be pretty strong.
How did you Oscar turn out? Mine is excellent defensively, when it comes to fighting enemy knights and such, he can definatly stand there and take the hits, but he hardly ever counters for more than 5 damage with a Steel Lance. It's nice to use him as a decoy, but he just can't seem to get the job done.

Ike might suck now, but once he promotes, he gets at least 3 strength and then he maxed it before level 10. He also maxed speed and defense, but honestly, none are really high. The critical turnaround for him, though, is when you give him an occult skill. It's the only way to...well, that would be a spoiler. You'll find out. He starts out pretty asstacular, but once he actually becomes a lord, it's like Eliwood promoted into Hector or something(in usefulness).
My Jill was pretty good, but Marcia was better in every stat except strength and maybe HP. I've never EVER seen a pegasus knight with so much tanking ability. She could sit around and take attacks from ballistae, and wouldn't even die if she somehow got hit.
I never used Stefan, but I should've, since his S rank sword and high starting strength makes him infinitely more useable than any other swordmaster in the game.
